Hart on the trade block

The Milwaukee Brewers have now also placed outfielder Corey Hart on the trade block as they look to see at the deadline.

Hart is having a monster season and would be an expensive addition since he has one more year remaining on his contract.

The outfielder recently injured his wrist, which has slowed some of the trade talk surrounding him.

Hart said that the wrist is just jammed and there is no structural damage, so he will be back in the lineup any day. (Read More…)

Brewers open to trading Fielder

The Milwaukee Brewers are open to trading star first baseman Prince Fielder and are willing to listen to offers.

Fielder becomes a free agent following the 2011 season and has already made it clear he wants to hit the open market.

The first baseman intends to go out and take the biggest contract offer he receives, which is way more than the Brewers would be willing to pay.

General manager Doug Melvin won’t trade Fielder unless he gets exactly what he wants in return. (Read More…)

Milwaukee Brewers midseason review

The Milwaukee Brewers have been a disappointment thus far this season but still are within striking distance in the National League Central.

The Brewers are once again benefitting from a division that has a lot of parity and always seems to come down to the wire.

However, the Brewers sit well under the .500 mark both overall in the standings and at home, which is not a good sign at all. (Read More…)

Fielder trade unlikely

Milwaukee Brewers first baseman Prince Fielder is unlikely to be traded before this year’s July 31 deadline.

Fielder got off to a slow start this year, which has hurt his trade value and would make him a sell-low player.

He is also under contract through 2011, so the Brewers have more time if they want to trade him.

The team is highly unlikely to re-sign him, so it is possible he will be dealt in the offseason or next year.

One of the big obstacles in trading him is the fact that suitors are concerned he is not open to signing an extension.

Edmonds signs with Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers have signed veteran outfielder Jim Edmonds to a minor-league contract.

Edmonds will receive an invite to spring training with an opportunity to break camp and head to the majors.

The Brewers like the experience that Edmonds will bring, as well as his outstanding defense and occasional power.

It’s a low-risk move for the Brewers, and they are hopeful that the year off has given Edmonds the fire to resurrect his career.

The Brewers have a lot of right-handed hitters in their lineup, so they are looking for some players to balance that out.

Vargas signs with Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers have re-signed pitcher Claudio Vargas to a one-year contract. The financial terms of the contract have not yet been disclosed.

The starting pitcher turned reliever was 1-0 with a 1.74 ERA last year in 36 appearances between the Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers.

He began the year on the disabled list before being activated right around the 4th of July. Had he been healthy the entire season, who knows what kind of numbers he might have put up.

The team didn’t want to waste time fiddling around with Vargas after he had such a dominant performance out of the bullpen last year, and who can really blame them?

In this day and age, quality arms out of the bullpen are a must-have but very hard to find, especially when it comes to turning in consistent performances year after year.
